Anyone Can Use The ESV Bible On The Internet

esv_logo.gifThe ESV isn't just a friendly translation for webmaster and developers. Some of the best features are tech/life integration for your average everyday consumers. This goes well beyond the RSS and iCal integration I've previously written about. Let's take a look at a handful of ways anyone can use these features.

Get Verses via Email

You can send an email to esvpassages@gnpcb.org with a verse in the subject and they will send you the text of that verse a few minutes later. Just put the subject in the form "ESV John 3:16" (the ESV is on the front of the subject to reduce spam).

Mobile Site

Not everyone browses the Internet in a web browser as powerful as Safari on their cell phone. For those of us who don't they provide a mobile friendly website to search the bible. This site lets you search the bible, jump right to a book, and even get to a list of studies and devotions.

Favlets

If you have never herd the term favlet before you're not alone. The idea behind a favlet is you can have a link in your favorites or bookmarks that preforms some action. In the case of the ESV translation there are a few favlets including a sidebar to access the bible, the ability to highlight text on a page and search for it in the bible, and more.

Firefox and Flock Search Plugin

Firefox and Flock have an extensible search box. Anyone can provide searches to add to the box. The ESV translation is no slouch in this are. There is a extension and you just have to visit their plugin page and follow the instructions to install it.
