Bible Reference Tagger by Logos

reftagger.pngRefTagger is an easy way to convert bible references into pop-ups with the text of the verse and links to the verse at BibleGateway.com.

This is done through some configurable JavaScript you include in the page. When the JavaScript is included in a web page it looks through the page, finds bible references in full and abbreviated formats, replaces them with links to BibleGateway.com, adds a pop-up showing the verse when you mouse over the link, and provides a tie in with Libronix.

Installation

There are 2 ways to include this into your website. The easiest way is to go to the RefTagger website and use the script generator at the bottom. Here you can select characteristics about the display, choose what version of the bible you want to use, choose parts of the page you don't want it to work on, and more. Then, you can just copy the provided code to your website.

The second way is the Wordpress plugin which allows this script to be added to any wordpress blog.

Impressions

I really like RefTagger with one exception. While it's easy to use, does a good job converting references to scripture, and is even somewhat customizable, the Libronix connection is going to confuse people. Libronix is incredibly popular but, this popularity is in the crowd of people who study the bible. This isn't the general population. Logos makes this script and Libronix so the connection makes sense. But, from a usability standpoint there is going to be a little confusion.

Thanks Matt!

Thanks Matt! This is a cool little thing. I just added it to my devotional site. It was super simple to add in Drupal, just a quick paste into the page.tpl file.
